You have probably heard before that “content is king” and it’s true. What you write is what brings in and attracts your visitors to your website. If you currently have a blog on your website, do you know if it’s a great blog or mediocre blog? Here are some tips on making sure your turn you website into an inbound marketing machine starting by transforming your existing blog.
Make Your Blog Rank in Search Engines
What does it mean to make a blog searchable? It means that when you blog, in order for other people besides those that browse your website find it, you must make sure you have in place a good SEO strategy.
Outside linking to your web is key. What does this mean? Basically, make sure you are sharing your blog content and that it will show on Google’s search results. The more exposure of the link, the higher it will rank on search engines. Remember to add relevant keywords to each post so that it will come up in relates searches when people search for those words. Yes your website might have keywords, but individual pages with keywords is also key. Below is a screenshot of one of our blogs in a Google Search Rank.
Your Blog Should Allow Linking Internally On Your Website
Your blog should be able to link blogs within you website. What does this mean? Well, when someone comes on to your website, it’s preferably to have them reach the bottom of the page or side bar and have links to “related” blogs to the one you are currently reading. More than that, you should be advertising other blogs that have been written previously to attract a visitor to staying longer. An example of this would be this very website. As you can see from the screen shots below showing how we try to engage our visitors by reading a recently written blog (not pictured), most popular, and even related posts.
Create Memorable and Shareable Content
How do you create memorable and shareable content? Give readers quick and easy relevant how-to blog posts. Keep in mind, these should be related to what your target audience would relate to. Do not go off your content strategy in order to just produce “shareable” content. This will only cause noise to both your website and target audience.
Industry related blog posts should also be written. An example would be this very blog post. It’s informative, a how-to, and related to producing relevant content. All of which is aimed to generate and engage our target audience.
Don’t forget to have yourself, as well as your company’s employees share your blog posts. Above I mentioned SEO and ranking in search engines, remember that this also occurs by using social media share buttons like the ones below. If you don’t have any, be sure to add the feature.
A final tip, remember to make your website, blog, and blog post, visually appealing. The structure of a blog also draws attention and with online readers attention being at an all time low, 10 seconds is the longest a visitor will stay on a site and decide if they keep browsing or close the browser tab.
You might be thinking that this will take a lot of time to do. I know as a marketer, that I don’t have the time to configure sharing, keywords, etc. daily. I prefer to focus on what matters most and that’s the content. Fortunate for me, I don’t have to worry about adding share buttons and or making this site or blog post visually appealing, this is done for me.
